Elementary (K-5) Education

christian Development

Trinity Episcopal School offers a Christ-centered and academically rigorous environment for education up through Fifth Grade. Elementary students begin their days worshiping in our historic and beautiful chapel, where children in higher grades read the scriptures to their classmates, and all students joyfully lift up their prayers to God. This time coming together in worship and fellowship serves as a wonderful way to begin each morning as a school community. Beyond chapel, our students use a series of Bible textbooks published by Memoria Press. These bible textbooks and their curricula provide age-appropriate discussions and work as students come to better understand scripture and learn from it.

Language Arts

Trinity’s Language Arts curriculum is meant to encourage high-level understanding of a number of age-appropriate concepts. Our Kindergarten through Second Grade teachers all have extensive training in the Orton-Gillingham method to introduce and strengthen phonemic awareness.  As our students mature in their academics, they are immersed in the higher-level thinking that comes with studying high-quality literature and novels. Our students recite poetry and learn the beauty of poetic language, and the texts that are chosen for books and novel studies offer students the highest quality literature. Enduring classics such as PaddingtonCharlotte’s Web, and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe are among our students’ favorite selections. Students also spend a significant amount of time practicing penmanship, beginning in their younger years where they begin print writing, continuing on to learning cursive in Second Grade. By Fourth Grade, all coursework is completed in cursive, ensuring the skill is second nature in their writing.

Math

Math curriculum at Trinity focuses on better number conceptual understanding and problem solving. Trinity Episcopal School proudly uses the Dimensions Math series published by Singapore Math, Inc. Our faculty have undergone extensive specialized trainings to learn how to teach this highly-rated research-based program. Using the Singapore Math program, children can connect concrete, pictoral, and abstract numerical representations.

Social Studies

As a Hillsdale Curriculum School, students beginning in second grade go through a multi-year study of World and United States History. Our teachers provide the students opportunities to learn more about the founding of American as well as other peoples and cultures throughout the world.

Science

Through Trinity’s partnership with Hillsdale College, our teachers also use the ScienceSauraus Student Handbook published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, as well as the CKSci Student Books published by Core Knowledge. These curricula offer hands-on interactive projects for the students to discover in age-appropriate ways. Previous projects utilizing this curricula have included charting the life cycle of a plant, erupting a volcano, and studying electricity and magnetism.
